Chorley Council’s Get Up and Go Play Rangers organised snowman and igloo building and a snowball challenge. There was also a penalty shoot out and even cricket and many more families brought along sledges and took advantage of the Park’s snow-covered grassy slopes.
Councillor John Walker, Chorley Council’s Executive Member (People) said: “It was all aimed at encouraging families and young people to enjoy playing out in the snow instead of being trapped inside and it was a great success.
“We had more than 100 families enjoying the organised activities, while many more families came along with sledges.
“Children of all ages took part in the snowball challenge winning prizes, orange footballs were used in the penalty shoot outs with many parents acting as goal keepers and there were young people playing cricket proving it’s not just a game for summer.
“Radio Lancashire also broadcast live from the Park and there was hot Vimto served up to keep people warm.”
This was the first event of the year organised by the GUAG team whose play rangers will be out and about organising activities on recreation grounds throughout the borough over the coming year.
A six week programme of activities will be on starting in February developing skills in a fun way through play, and the next big event will be Chorley Winter Playday on Saturday, February 20, in Chorley Town Hall from 11am to 3pm. This promises a day packed with activities including performances, Punch and Judy, arts and crafts, Wii gaming plus lots of information about what’s on offer in Chorley for families and young people.
